Connect Reel-E to Grok

Use Reel-E from Grok at grok.com, or from your own app through the xAI API.

Server address: https://www.reel-e.ai/mcp

How you sign in: Sign in to Reel-E in your browser (OAuth) in the Grok app. The xAI API takes a key from Connect an agent.

Credits: anything that uses a credit asks for your confirmation first.

Screens may differ slightly; this guide is checked against the live app before launch.

What you need

  • A Reel-E account. Reel-E is free to try · Cancel anytime.
  • A Grok account. On Grok Business and Enterprise, an admin has to provision the connector in the cloud console first.

Add Reel-E in the Grok app

  1. Go to grok.com/connectors.

  2. Click New Connector, then Custom.

  3. Paste the server address https://www.reel-e.ai/mcp and continue.

  4. Grok opens Reel-E. Sign in, choose Full control or Ask me first and press Allow.

  5. Grok lists Reel-E's tools. Start a new chat and ask.

Use the xAI API

The API takes a fixed token instead of a sign-in. Make a key in Reel-E: Keylight Studio, the AI Director panel, the plug button, Connect an agent. Pick only the permissions you need (leave credits, publishing and new listings off) and copy the key. It is shown once.

  1. Add Reel-E to your request as a tool:

    {
      "type": "mcp",
      "server_url": "https://www.reel-e.ai/mcp",
      "server_label": "reel_e",
      "authorization": "YOUR_KEY",
      "allowed_tools": ["list_listings", "get_edit_summary", "reorder_shots", "set_title", "set_music"]
    }

Always set allowed_tools. Without it Grok sends all of Reel-E's tool definitions with every request, which is large. xAI's API does not ask for approval before a tool runs, so a key with only the permissions you want is the safeguard. Reel-E still holds credit-using actions for your approval unless the key has the credits permission.

What it can and cannot do

Your assistant can look at your listings and videos, change the order of shots, the music, titles, text and branding, check your listing website and video stats, and start a new listing video.

Anything that uses a credit, publishes your website, or starts a new listing waits for your yes, unless you gave that connection permission to go ahead on its own. Every edit has an Undo.

With your permission it can get your finished video ready and give you the download link. It cannot start a plan or change billing, or see other people's listings.

See every tool in the tool reference.

How sign-in works

Most assistants open a Reel-E sign-in page where you choose what they may do (OAuth). Your assistant never sees your password. If an assistant asks for a key instead, make one in Reel-E: open Keylight Studio and the AI Director panel, click the plug button and choose Connect an agent. A key is shown once.

What to say first

  • List my Reel-E listings.
  • Move the kitchen photo to the front and make the title Just Listed.
  • Make a listing video from this listing page: (paste a link).

If something goes wrong

  • The sign-in does not finish. Remove the connector at grok.com/connectors and add it again. Make sure you are signed in to reel-e.ai in the same browser.
  • The connector hangs or other connectors slow down. Remove it and add it again.
  • No listings. Make your first listing at reel-e.ai/create.
  • Business or Enterprise: no New Connector button. Ask your admin to provision custom connectors.

Disconnect

Remove it at grok.com/connectors. In Reel-E go to Account settings, Profile, Connected apps and choose Disconnect. For an API key, revoke it from the same list.

You stay in control

You decide what the assistant may do. On the sign-in screen, choose Full control, where it does the whole job without stopping, or Ask me first, where anything that uses a credit, publishes your website or starts a new listing waits for your yes in Reel-E. You can pick which listings it can reach. You can disconnect any time in Reel-E under Account settings, Profile, Connected apps, and the connection stops at once. Reel-E only shares what the assistant needs to do what you asked, and your assistant's maker handles it under their own terms.
